The Center for Evolution and Cancer Visiting Scientist Program
The Center for Evolution and Cancer (CEC) at the University of California San Francisco is offering various opportunities for scientists at all levels to visit research labs and interact with researchers working at the interface between evolution and cancer. The program is designed to facilitate interaction with CEC members through various activities (journal clubs, seminars, lab meetings), mentoring in cancer biology (for evolutionary scientists) and evolutionary biology (for cancer biologists), writing of research papers or proposals, analyzing data, etc. These visits could be from 2 weeks up to 1 year (depending on the program; see below). The program does not provide housing or funding for these visits, but a limited number of awards (up to $500) will be available to defray travel costs.  The visit is expected to have a specific goal and result in a specific deliverable (review paper, data/modeling paper, data set, fellowship/grant application, etc). Applications to visit a CEC lab are received throughout the year but travel awards will be offered twice a year (February 10th and July 10th).

Graduate student visiting program

This program is designed to expose graduate students to research at the interface between evolution and cancer early in their career.  A list of local CEC members can be found here.
Applications should include:
•    The applicant’s CV
•    A letter from the student’s advisor supporting the visit
•    One-page proposal indicating the duration of the visit (up to six months) and what it is hoped to be achieved from the visit (e.g., research proposal, fellowship application, etc)
•    A brief letter from the CEC member who will be hosting the applicant

Postdoctoral fellow visiting program

This program is designed to help young scientists develop a research program in evolution and cancer.  A list of  local CEC members can be found here.
Applications should include:
•    The applicant’s CV
•    A letter from the applicant’s employer (if applicable) supporting their visit
•    One-page proposal indicating the duration of their visit (up to six months) and what they hope to achieve from the visit (e.g., grant proposal, fellowship application, paper, data set, etc)
•    A brief letter from the CEC member who will be hosting the applicant

Faculty/staff scientist visiting program
This program is designed to help facilitate cross-talk among faculty with research programs in cancer or evolutionary biology, especially for faculty considering extending their research program into one or the other field.  A list of local CEC members can be found here.
Applications should include:

•    A letter from the applicant’s employer (if applicable) supporting their visit
•    One-page proposal indicating the duration of their visit (up to six months) and what they hope to achieve from the visit (e.g., grant proposal, paper, data set, etc)
•    A brief letter from the CEC member who will be hosting the applicant

Sabbatical visiting program
This program is designed to help facilitate cross-talk among faculty with research programs in cancer or evolutionary biology, with the goal of establishing long-term collaborations.  A list of local CEC members can be found here.
Applications should include:
•    The applicant’s CV
•    One-page proposal indicating the duration of their visit (up to a year) and what they hope to achieve from the visit (e.g., grant proposal, paper, data set, etc)
